Two Juneteenth Concerts 2023
JUNETEENTH TRIBUTE TO HARRY THACKER BUREIGH
MORE Opera presents a tribute to 20th century composer and cultural preservationist Harry T. Burleigh on June 19, 2023 at 2 PM in Vladeck Hall, 74 Van Cortlandt Park South, Bronx, NY 10463. Operatic soprano Cheryl Warfield will sing spirituals and Olga Gurevich will perform a Burleigh piano suite. Twenty Bronx area choristers will sing traditional folk music and recite historical narratives celebrating Juneteenth.
SECOND ANNUAL JUNETEENTH JUBILEE
MORE Opera presents a preview concert of “Second Annual Juneteenth Jubilee,” at 1 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center Farmers Market, 100 W. Mosholu Parkway S., Bronx, NY 10468 (corner of Goulden and Sedgwick Avenues). The free outdoor concert of traditional folk songs and spirituals from the Black experience and historical text to celebrate Juneteenth will be performed by MORE Opera's Community Chorus of Bronx area choristers. The Farmer’s Market is open from 11 am to 3 pm every Saturday from June 17th through October 28th.
